This race was another great outing for Team Heckel. Brooke Heckel drove her Whaley Motorsports powered 2009 Half Scale to the top of the qualifying with a stout 4.2662 at Little River Dragway in Holland, Texas, a little town just outside of Temple. With that 4.2662, Brooke set the SouthWest 330 Outlaw Jr. Dragster series record. Then in the first round of eliminations she reset the record with a 4.2610 on her bye-run. Team Heckel had the held the record at 4.277 with, Hunter Patton, another driver that has been filling in for the team at NHRA tracks. In the second round Brooke took out the 2008/2009 Texas Outlaw 330 Champion Brandon Brewer running a 4.2791 (.0497) to Brandon’s 4.3047 (.0739). Brooke edged out Team Racer Pops Components driver, Juan Valadez in his Whaley Motorsports powered RPC, in the final with a 4.2785 (.0664) to Juan’s 4.2793 (.0806). Congratulations to both teams. They did a fantastic job and gave a great final round.
Juan’s road to the finals started in the first round against Jordin DeWald with a 4.2823 (.0717) to her 4.4673 (.0830). Then in the second round Juan defeated Brianna Maitland with a 4.2880 (.0569) to her 4.4139 (.01323). Brianna posted the best light of the evening with that .0132.
Other Whaley Motorsports notables of the day were Chris Benham with his fastest run of the day with a 4.2849 (.0308) and Brandon Brewer’s 4.2861 (.0348) against Dustin Ryan in the first round.
